That's what your buying, insurance.

I'm never sick but if I'm in a group coverage plan I have to pay the same as someone who uses it and is sick, for whom the policy has to shell out money. My money. It's very simple.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">So simply never having to use the benefits wasn't enough over 5 yrs? I should have had to submit to some arbitrary statistic to "prove" I was in fact healthy? No claims should equal a discount.

Jumper, you say, why should you pay for someone's pregnancy? That person can look at you and say why should we pay for your Orthopedic appointments because you choose to run marathons?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I predicted you'd bring up this argument. My answer simiply is my occasional PT or Ortho appointment is generally going to be cheaper in the long run than a pregnancy, emphyasezma, diabetes in both medications and doctor/hospital visits as running is helping to lead a healthier lifestyle.

As for jumping out of airplanes, no insurance group policy in the world would cover that. I had to purchase an individual policy to cover death from "traumatic impact with the earth"

    Cool

Simply put, if you have blotches on your driving record you pay higher auto insurance premiums. Tickets, DUI's and accidents tend to make insurers look at you as a higher risk than those who dont have such things on their record.

It should be the same for health insurance.
People who CHOOSE TO SMOKE should pay more than those who dont smoke, because smoking has been proven to make people a higher risk for some seriuos health problems.

And someone who never files a claim should get a rebate whether they smoke or present "risks" or not. Bottom line should be a person's rate should be based on claims filed. No claims within a given period of time and they should get a lower rate or a partial rebate. Right now it doesn't apply to me at all, I declined coverage until further notice. I'll look after my own health. Most doctors do more harm than good anyway...

The point is...we don't know what the future holds for us.

Off I go....I'm going to get my exercise and play softball tonight (2 games)..let hope I don't hurt anything.

The vehicle/health insurance analogy is flawed.

We can control the way we drive; we can't control our health. GL, you should know that as much as anyone.

All the preventative measures in the world won't stop a person from getting MS.
